Meet Marne

My story….

I grew up in small town Illinois and I always remember wanting to know what else was out there.  My life was good, but I knew there was more.  I guess that part of me started when I was very young.  I ran the gamut on things I wanted to be when I grew up.  I remember wanting to be an athletic coach, an air force pilot, a marine biologist, a doctor, a nurse.  I’m sure there were others, but I remember that wanting to help others was the common theme.

So I went to college in the hopes of becoming a nurse.  I quickly learned that I was not cut out to help people in a medical capacity, so by combining my love for helping others and the outdoors, I graduated from the University of Iowa with a Recreational Therapy degree.  After graduating, I worked at a therapeutic wilderness school in Virginia for at-risk girls ages 12 to 18.  It was there that I first discovered a passion for community and deep, meaningful relationships, and knew that making connections with others would be a big part of my life.  It completely filled me up.

After being at the school for 3 and a half years, I moved on to be with the man I am now married to in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina.  I worked in mental health with at-risk youth for another couple years, but started to realize that working in mental health stopped meeting my needs.  It began to drain me instead of excite me.  I missed connection and relationships.  So I began to open myself up to what else was out there for me. That feeling of something more was coming up again.  That’s when I was introduced to life coaching through an article in a magazine.  And I know you know the feeling…I knew in every part of my being that life coaching was what I was meant to do.  That was how I was going to contribute.  I couldn’t think of anything better than having real, meaningful conversations with people, working together on getting to the place they really wanted to be in life.  This was my chance to make a real difference.  I couldn’t believe there was a way for me to incorporate everything I valued into a profession, let alone get paid for it…for being who I am and doing what I love.  Amazing!

I soon became pregnant and did not return back to mental health after having my first child.  Pursuing my dream of becoming a life coach was put on hold so I could stay home and raise my daughters.  As my girls got older and I had more time for me, I decided to finally pursue my passion of life coaching.  I hired a coach for myself, started Marne Harris Coaching Services (MHCS), and graduated from a coach training program through Coach U in 2010.  And I am proud to say MHCS offers personal growth and professional development coaching, training and workshops, program development and facilitation.

I am truly honored to be a part of helping others find their place and purpose, and to stay true to their path when they are constantly confronted by roadblocks and negative belief systems and thought patterns that get in the way of living the life they truly want.  I am committed to working together with you on your goals, keeping to your vision, and helping to see your struggles as an opportunity for growth.
